Air power has acquired renewed and very topical connotation nowadays, also for Italy. On one hand the new geopolitical environment forced a cultural modification, from the security and defence of the national boundaries to a wider concept of international security and the defence of the rights of mankind, wherever they are threatened, on the other hand it seems clear, and worrying, the vulnerability of our society against the terroristic threat.
This new environment has led the international community to intervene in different areas of the world where stability was at stake, during last decade. After the 11th September dramatic events, the revision of the air power doctrine has been boosted. Nowadays, air power employment, in all its components, seems to be important, quite often decisive, in any kind of situation, from humanitarian to peaceenforcing operations.
